Seven Ohio-based startups and entrepreneurs recognized for 2016 successes

Winners of the 2016 VentureOhio Awards were selected at the third annual VentureOhio Gala. The VentureOhio Gala brings together the top entrepreneurs, investors and thought leaders from across Ohio and beyond to celebrate the year’s success and inspire innovation in the years to come. The event continues to grow in popularity with this year marking the first official sell out.

Twenty finalists were selected out of a total of 88 nominations, with the final seven winners chosen by a panel of expert judges. The panel was led by Mark Brandt (RSM) and includes: John McIlwraith (Allos Ventures), Jonathon Vinocur (Thompson Hine), Calvin Cooper (NCT Ventures), Jeff Toewe (Athenian), Ryan Helon (Rev1 Ventures), Ray Leach (Jumpstart) and Falon Donohue (VentureOhio).

Each of the selected individuals and organizations have contributed substantially to Ohio’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, and have demonstrated the success that can be accomplished in Ohio. Categories and winners include:

 

SEED STAGE COMPANIES OF THE YEAR:

 

Remesh

Based in Cleveland and New York, Remesh is a platform that uses machine learning to understand and engage groups of people with real-time chat. This is achieved by allowing a single moderator to chat with a group as if they were a collective intelligence. Beyond inline conversation, the group’s opinion on every response is collected, analyzed, and presented in real time.

 

T-Pro Solutions

T-Pro Solutions, Inc. is a computer software company that provides applications to CPG companies in order to efficiently analyze and administer Trade Promotion investments in a “Software as a Solution” environment. Based in Columbus, OH, the private company was founded in 2013 and has since grown at a rapid pace.

ConnXus

ConnXus is a supplier diversity software company headquartered in Mason, Ohio. The cloud-based platform helps small and diverse businesses, including woman- and minority-owned companies, grow by connecting them to Fortune 2,000 corporations.

DOmedia

DOmedia is an independent, Columbus-based technology company on a mission to change the way out-of-home media is bought and sold. Our cloud-based applications connect buyers and sellers to leverage marketplace effects, eliminate labor and improve reporting and analytics.

Assurex Health

Assurex Health is an informatics-based precision medicine company providing treatment decision support to healthcare providers for behavioral health and chronic pain conditions. Assurex Health was recently acquired by Myriad Genetics for $225 million.

Ryan Frederick

Ryan Frederick is currently a Principal at AWH, Columbus Director of Startup Grind, Advisor at Rev1 Ventures, Advocate for i.c.stars|*Columbus, Co-Founder of BLK HACK and leader at ProductCamp Columbus. Ryan has helped companies grow from inception, to viability, through to sustainability. During the evolution of these companies, Ryan has served on company boards and been instrumental in capitalization activities. Ryan brings a unique blend of business acumen and technical knowledge to help companies and customers to achieve their objectives and plays an integral role in the continued growth and development of the Columbus entrepreneurial ecosystem.

 

ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR:

 

Don Wright, Assurex Health

As Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Don Wright has spent the greater part of the past decade growing Assurex Health from a fantastic and much needed technology invented at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Mayo Clinic to a company of over 480 employees serving almost 400,000 people with mental health conditions.
