Meet Shaun Young – CEO & Founder of Ardina

Shaun is the CEO and founder of Ardina, a digital healthcare membership program headquartered in Columbus designed to save members time and money on their out-of-pocket healthcare expenditures. Shaun received his Pharm.D. from the University of Pacific and MBA from Harvard Business School.

Is this your first venture?

Yes

How many times did you fail before finding success with your current company? What is the most important lesson you learned from failure?

I’m still learning. Success in corporate life has almost no bearing on success in startup life, so be willing to continuously learn: read blogs, listen to podcasts, network, attend meetups and ask for help.

Why did you chose to scale your business in Ohio?

Columbus is nicknamed the “Test Market of America.” A successful business in Columbus (and Ohio) has a greater chance of success in the rest of the country. I spent seven years at Walmart’s headquarters, so I can vouch for this nickname!

What is the most difficult part about doing business in Ohio?

I feel that success is truly linked to finding and solving customer pain points. This is no different in Ohio than it is in the rest of the country.

Is there something that we should have asked you and didn’t?

For anyone interested in entrepreneurship, the best places to start [in Columbus] are SBA, WakeUp StartUp, Sundown Rundown, Startup Grind, Rev1 Ventures‘ Founder’s Lunches, Innovate New Albany‘s Tiger Talks, Cultivate‘s Lunch & Learn — the list goes on and on. But you’ll find great people with great experience willing to help great entrepreneurs.
