Meet Aaron Slodov – Co-Founder of Remesh

Aaron is the co-founder of Remesh (Cleveland), a platform that uses machine learning to understand and engage groups of people with real-time conversation.

Is this your first venture?

Yes! However, Remesh has gone through at least one major makeover in the two years that I’ve spent on it, shifting from a social focus to B2B. All things being equal, this is still my first venture.

What is the most important lesson you learned from failure?

The entrepreneur community loves to praise failure, when in reality the ones preaching failure are the ones that have succeeded, and the others who weren’t so lucky will almost always have a different tune. I do think that failure is important, though. It is undoubtedly the best way to learn. Without it, we would lack the humility and experience to succeed.

Why did you chose to scale your business in Ohio?

By adding more jobs to the area, we can take part in improving our local economy which plays to the larger picture. I also feel strongly that Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati have the potential to share in the same success as other recent startup cities that are currently on the rise.

What is the most difficult part about doing business in Ohio?

Investment-wise it’s quite difficult to bring money in during the pre-revenue/seed stages. We need to address this gap in funding or startups will move elsewhere and investors will only be left with companies who fit their risk profiles – leaving the area with a smaller and less-diverse pool of companies to invest in. Also, making connections takes longer since everyone isn’t geographically located in the same few square miles like some other cities. Without a constant stream of new connections it becomes difficult to generate leads that could produce revenue.
